...more about what Sophia does best

Sophia found interest in the nitty-gritty details of theatre after her first time as a dance captain at the age of 13. Sparked by the production's director, Julianna Babb's, character work and emphasis on the importance of fully-developed stories, Sophia discovered a love for picking scripts and stories apart and creating full worlds onstage.

At Marymount Manhattan College, she pursued dual majors in musical theatre performance and directing, and her work in the classroom, the direction of Noah Haidle's Saturn Returns in particular, engaged classmates and professors alike.

Educational Theatre:

As a director and associate working with students of all ages, Sophia is known for her enthusiasm for students to use their own creativity to positively impact the show. Whether that is in the form of character work–a key skill for actors made exciting with seemingly random questions like “do you think your character is more like crunchy or creamy peanut butter?”–or allowing students to share ideas they have about character movement styles or voices, letting young people feel like they have a voice in the process is something she greatly encourages.

She most recently worked at White Plains Performing Arts Center directing/choreographing Beetlejuice Jr., and has spent five years with the Ogunquit Playhouse Arts Academy as the Associate Director, Associate Choreographer and Teaching Artist (amongst other titles) and particularly enjoys engaging with students ages 4-18 and helping them find community and joy in their discovery of theatre as an outlet for creativity and personal growth. Sophia has worked alongside directors with vast knowledge and experience in the industry, including Nathan Peck (Kinky Boots, various Regional Productions), Angie Schworer (The Prom), Clint Hromsco (La Cage Aux Folles; BWW Chicago Best Direction of a Musical), and Joyce Presutti (MSMT, TheatreWorks).
